From Watsonville, California. It’s hard to find words to describe Annieglass’s work. And it’s impossible to label it under one category. Modern, cool, opulent, luxurious, sustainable, intentional. All of these adjectives suit equally perfectly the artwork crafted by Annie’s team along the National Marine Sanctuary of the Monterey Bay in Northern California. As you can see from the pictures, she works with unique designs, often taking inspiration from nature’s forms. The result is this mesmerizing combination of handcrafted glass, organic shapes, and gold or platinum. Like I said before, it’s hard to describe.

Materials: Lead-free glazed porcelain. The average price for a 3-piece placing set: $132

From Burlington, North Carolina. Haand is the young love child of 2 high school friends: a potter and an artist transplant from the corporate world. They started Haand in 2012 under the philosophy of making unique dinnerware with care and intention. And they stick to their beliefs. From design to glazing, there is a skillful and committed human from the team of circa 20 people directly involved in the manufacturing process. They even formulate their own glaze! So be sure you’ll eat out of great lead-free porcelain dinnerware handmade in USA. They developed such an efficient and thoughtful process to work with porcelain that they have a restaurant line beside the residential ceramic pieces. You can see their work method here. It’s fascinating!

What we love

We love businesses with a purpose and we love slow production with humans at the center, of course. But on top of all Haand amazingness, they are also sustainable. They gave a Seconds annual sale, where they sell pieces that didn’t pass their cosmetic quality control with huge discounts. Because all the process is manual, sometimes there is a fingerprint here and there or the glazing coloring isn’t exactly like they envisioned. And they sell out! It’s such a win-win idea! They avoid waste while giving more people the opportunity to shop for high-quality lead-free cool dinnerware made in the USA. Winners!

Conclusion

I read a lot of customers’ reviews to make sure these companies meet excellent quality criteria. Here’s what I considered:

  1. Stellar delivery and packaging standards. China is breakable and you want to receive it in one piece. Fortunately, the dinnerware industry has great know-how on delivery. To be honest, it’s safer to have them deliver it at your door than you carrying it in and off the trunk. I read only wonderful things about the American companies on this list. Also, most companies are committed to sustainability, which means less foam and unnecessary packaging.
  2. Outstanding customer service. No matter how good and careful the packaging is, accidents happen. In that case, the company must be accountable for the liability. It’s part of their business if they wanna sell online. Any company that doesn’t do that, does not deserve customers’ dollars. The companies in this list are definitely on the right side of the story.
  3. Chipping resistance. If it is fine china or everyday mugs, we want it to look good and not melt away or have cracks after a few uses. Also, it’s a health issue. Once a plate starts chipping, it will keep fading away and may even break in the dishwasher or the microwave. Of course, we are considering that the manufacturer’s instructions will be followed correctly.
  4. Durability. Dinnerware is meant to be used every day. Whatever care is recommended by the manufacturer, the ceramic must stand the test of time. I read reviews of people who have had some dinnerware from this list in great shape for over 20 years.

I believe it covers all bases of what we expect from great dinnerware made in the USA or anywhere. So it’s only a matter of choosing what fits your budget and personal style.

I enjoy much of your writing but wanted to point out that LENOX NO LONGER is Made in USA as they closed their only US based factory in Kinston, NC, last year.

I recently read an article on your site ref : “best dinnerware made in USA” which still included Lenox on this list. As a native North Carolinian it would be nice if you could “correct” the list. It was really hard for eastern NC to lose them but even worse if people choose Lenox thinking they ate still US made, when they aren’t.

Hello, thank you so much for your comment. I’m so sorry for the lost jobs. Even though the fabric is closed, there’s still a reminiscent bone china inventory that was made in the USA from when the NC factory was opened. Bone china doesn’t seem to sell as much nowadays. So thanks to your comment I figured it would be helpful for the readers to explain the situation because it can be a little confusing at first. The Lenox USA factory is closed indeed, but there is reminiscent of bone china inventory made in the USA for sale on official and reliable online stores, including Lenox. Thank you so much for your comment! It’s so good to get helpful feedback from our readers! I hope you have a great year!
